Experienced team

The most experienced engineers and construction managers moved to form AMZCO Construction, which comprises a core team of 20 staff and dedicated subcontractors. Staff are trained and ticketed to the highest CITB standards, and work under the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Winston Reed, Chairman

Winston, Chairman of AMZCO, recognises the significance of renewable energy incentives for sustainable food and energy production.

Winston is a driving force within AMZCO and dedicated to the continuing growth of the AD and renewable energy sector. As Chairman he is and responsible for co-ordinating the key collective skills of the management team, as well as identifying new areas of growth for AD construction. In addition to AMZCO, he is a key motivating director of Torridge Vale Ltd, a farmers’ co-operative dairy processing factory with turnover grown from near zero in 1996 to over £12m more recently, employing 120 staff.

Winston has huge experience in farm management and at one point grew the family dairy farm to one of the largest herds in Devon. He has served as sales and marketing director for a Co-Operative Group company creating and developing the ‘Definitely Devon’ branding, which with a £25m turnover, in 2006 was sold to Wiseman Dairies.

Chris Hawkins, Managing Director

Chris, the former Head of Construction for Greener for Life Energy (GFLE) moved from GFLE to take over AMZCO in 2016. AMZCO now operates as the construction arm of the Greener for Life (GFL) business, and includes all construction staff.

With GFL, Chris oversaw the design, build and commissioning of almost all of GFL sites in operation today. Having delivered four gas to grid plants, 13 CHPs and six renewable heat installs in under two years, he thrives under pressure. Chris is highly driven and motivated, and takes great pleasure in working with his team to deliver results we can all be proud of.

With a farming background, attention to detail and passion for process and civil engineering gives him a leading edge in the AD sector where operational efficiency and build quality are the keys to success. Chris started in renewables in 2002 with WH While Plc which designs, builds and operates waste recycling and landfill gas installations. As the Commercial Development Manager, Chris was the driving force behind the conception of New Earth Solutions Ltd the first company to build and operate ABPR-compliant composting plants and operate RDF gasification plants in the UK.

Chris has eight years’ experience at board level. With extensive knowledge in project managing and achieving financial close with high value projects like AD, Chris and his team can deliver the full AD package.

Will Green, Project Development Director

Will joined AMZCO in Autumn 2017. Will has over 10 years experience in Renewable Energy.

He worked for the team at Aggregated Micro Power AMP (now AIM Listed) for 6 years developing a range of projects focused around wood fuel.

In 2013 he set up his own biomass boiler business Edge Renewables (South West ) Limited. Installed boilers predominantly into agricultural and has a woodchip depot at Charltons Sawmill near Frome.

From a farming background he is very excited about his new role at AMZCO developing new projects and opportunities.

Rachel Hooper, Business Manager
Rachel is the oil in the AMZCO gearbox! With 14 years in finance, Management Accountant and Company Secretary and financial management of 18 depots for a major UK facilities management.

She joined AMZCO in Autumn 2017 as Business Manager. Rachel handles a wide variety of tasks including HR, head and site office management, marketing and key account management, PA duties to the directors and essentially keeps everyone happy and the business running smoothly and efficiently.

Morten, Chief Systems Engineer

Morten is our Chief Systems Engineer and a very intelligent one at that! Morten has over 37 years’ experience as an engineer, working on gas engines, marine engines and generators to name just a few. Morten worked with Den-tor to develop the first separation system, and worked on various water treatments, waste and recycling projects.

After working for 8 years as a manager of the electrical department, Morten decided he preferred to be more hands on and started his own company in 2014. After working as a sub-contractor for AMZCO and Greener for Life for the last 4 years, Morten joined the AMZCO Construction team in May 2018. Morten is often flying around Europe fixing faulty broken engines as it is such a niche job. Morten is a much valued member of the team and is currently working on some very innovative ideas that are likely to result in break-through technology for the AD industry.

Gary Milligan, Construction Engineer

Gary joined AMZCO in the summer of 2017 having previous managed the commissioning and operation of a 3mw Gas to Grid Facility completed by AMZCO.

Gary has many years’ experience as a mechanical engineer, workshop manager and oil plant supervisor.

Shane Boyles, Construction Engineer

Shane, from an agricultural background, and many years in the steel fabrication industry, Shane can handle pretty much any job thrown at him.

As expert machine operator, fabricator, and civils operative Shane will have a solution. An all-round ‘can-do guy’.

Trevor Sillifant, CMIOSH CMILT PIEMA TIFireE
Safety & Environmental Adviser

Trevor joined the team as in-house health and safety advisor in the summer of 2019. Trevor has many years of experience as a Safety/Environmental SME (Subject Matter Expert), working in high hazard industries including nuclear, munitions and the petroleum sectors.

He is well known and respected across the West Country within the safety fraternity after serving for many years on the Institution of Safety & Health(IOSH) – South West Branch, in various roles, culminating as Branch Chair for the last few years.  He has a passion for promoting safety 24/7 and implementing  techniques to ensure the prevention of harm to the environment within the industrial workplace.

He has worked closely with local authorities and blue light responders in the formulation of emergency plans for a number of Top -Tier COMAH industrial sites.  Over the years he has introduced a number of both safety and environmental management systems to ensure that safety and environmental management attracts the same level of commitment as other business priorities within the organisation.  He is committed to the aims of the organisation, given the environmental benefits and future sustainability of energy recovery processes such as anaerobic digestion plants.
